Friends of Washoe is dedicated to the welfare of chimpanzees, especially the five chimpanzees in its care. Friends of Washoe has led the way in efforts to improve captive conditions, save wild chimpanzees from extinction, and educate the general public about chimpanzees.

The Great Ape Project seeks to establish fundamental protections for free-living and captive great apes. GAP chapters around the world speak, act and fight on their behalf, working to erase the boundary that divides those beings who have basic rights—humans—from those who have none.
